Rip (x8) and Re-Knit

December 1st, 2007 by monnibo

Yes, you read correctly… times 8. For any non-knitters, the term “rip” or “frogging” is used whenever you unravel something you’ve knitted. It’s often called “frogging” because you ‘rip-it, rip-it’… and if you pull quickly enough, the stitches coming apart make little pop-pop-pop sounds like ribbits.

My personal ball-winder hard at work!

Shield the little-one’s eyes — my naked hot water bottle!

And attempt number 8 (At least I think its number 8… I kind of lost count). It seems like every time I get to this point, I find something wrong and have to frog it.

Question For The Knitters: Regarding Cables

Do you ever have this little ‘gap’ when you cross the cable over? It’s not a proper hole, but it’s a gap where the furthest stitch left stretches to it’s new position, and the middle stitch coming over doesn’t have anything holding it in the previous row.

Do visuals help?

Dinner anyone?

December 1st, 2007 by monnibo

Doesn’t this dinner look gorgeous? I made Oven-Roasted Vegetables and pies for dinner tonight. Before I left home, I borrowed all of my mom’s cookbooks & clips that I liked and photocopied all the recipes I wanted to make my own “Kitchen Clips” book. I made sure to mark all the notes into mine as well. Read the rest of this entry »

Fire in The Highlands

December 1st, 2007 by monnibo

Earlier today after Craig and I had showered, we turned on the fire in the living room to warm up and dry our hair. After a bit I told Craig I could smell burning plastic – he said that the fire was safe and it was just heating up. A little while later we heard noise in the driveway (our street is called The Highlands) and Craig thought that it was someone trying to start their car. When the noise persisted we opened up the curtains and saw a fire engine right outside our walkway.

There was also smoke on the other side of the drive where a bunch of shopping trolleys were ditched along with a shed.

Once the smoke cleared a bit we could see that the smoke was coming from a little shed behind the shopping trolleys. It’d been raining a lot in the past couple days so I guess someone thought they were “okay” to burn the trash in the corner of the drive.

After the fire was under control, the police showed up – “Boys in Florescent Green” – to speak to #14 (directly across from us). We’re assuming they called 999 (aka 911) so they had to fill in some paperwork.
