CraigsList Crawling

April 30th, 2008 by monnibo

Wow… the life of an unemployed CraigsList lurker is certainly fast-paced. I’ve been applying to jobs like crazy, my dad just called a guy and test drove his car, I missed out on a free iMac, I’ve just been offered a lot of about 75 books for free, and I’ve been scoping furniture for my sister. All through Craigslist.com!

Still no job, well, one freelance but haven’t heard from the other 40-some-odd I’ve applied to. My dad is having the car looked at by his mechanic tomorrow (it’s for my sister). Some guy is moving and put his iMac (allegedly working) in his alley about 20 minutes ago but it was gone when I got there. Yes I drove across the city like a maniac for it. I’m so bummed I missed it!!

The books make me excited. This guy is moving to Winnipeg and he’s trying to sell these books (mostly fantasy). I emailed him asking about a couple that I was interested in, and asked what he would suggest for someone who liked Terry Goodkind. He just emailed me back and said — have them all for free as long as you can come this weekend! I guess he’s getting desperate with moving to Winnipeg in a couple weeks. So hopefully I can arrange to pick them up.

And my sister recently moved out of our parent’s house (I’m still here/there), so she wants some patio furniture for her back porch. CraigsList has a free section so she wants something that can withstand the elements (read: Vancouver rains).

Those are my CraigsList tales so far. Bummed about the iMac, but really cool about the books!

ETA: I forgot to mention! I saw this post and my sister dialed for me and put the phone to my ear. She’s a stash enabler and she doesn’t even knit!! Unfortunately it was already gone.

War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells (book review)

April 28th, 2008 by monnibo

I don’t want to read it anymore and you can’t make me!

This is the 2nd time I’m going to put down this book because it is sooooo heavy on descriptions and sci-fi isn’t exactly my thing anyway. It’s just veeerry heavy. You gotta pay attention to every little word, pause-process-comprehend, and keep going. I refuse to come back to this book. Why waste my time on things I’m not enjoying?

Explained Absence

April 27th, 2008 by monnibo

Sorry for the lack of blogging. I’ve been fed up with 2.5.1… but I figured out the problem! It’s because I’m self-hosted on a Mac. Apparently the new WordPress doesn’t like MacOSX (or at least their flash-uploader thingy doesn’t).

Anyway, I haven’t been doing anything worthy of noting. I haven’t read, I haven’t knit, I went for a bike ride but the weather turned ugly as soon as I got on my bike (typical) so no photos. Although today was the photo shoot for the budding photographer. He’s a neat guy and we had fun. We ended up in the Library Square at the downtown Public Library because it started raining. Maybe another day we’ll try for Stanley Park in nicer weather.

Funny story while I was being a model… while the photographer (Jay of MicrowavePhotography) was taking a photo, I was sitting at a bench and he was standing miiiiles away and some guy came up to me and said, “Hey how you doing?” and I had to point to Jay with the camera and say, sorry, we’re taking photos! Embarrassing! Not only that, he hung around for a bit and watched… awkward! After a few minutes of me ignoring him and Jay continuing to take photos, he left.

When I get the photos from the TFCD (Time for CD) shoot, I’ll post a couple of the better ones up! In the meantime, check out some of Jay’s photography. I really liked the architecture so it was neat doing it at the VPL which is quite unique in it’s own respect.

(This is a photo of the Downtown Library from July 31st, 2007 when I was doing my Virtual Vancouver Tour for the Knitter’s Virtual Vacation. I put together a PhotoDVD for Helene!)

Ugh WP 2.5.1

April 25th, 2008 by monnibo

I’m still getting HTTP Error when the Add Media Images tries to crunch my photos. This is gonna make me sooo angry. I dealt with it when it was the initial release (2.5) but 2.5.1 was supposed to fix these problems.

New Found Love

April 25th, 2008 by monnibo

Remember these? Courtesy of Gemma — my spoiler for the UK Swap!

I’m actually knitting (wow I know) on my mother’s Gothic Leaf Stole (double wow). It calls for a couple stitch markers so I thought I’d use these new ones instead of my regular neon green & purple plastic rings. Well I must say, the weight of these kitties and the mouse are so much nicer and slide so much easier than the plastic rings do. I mean the rings were great for place-marking, they did their job and they were cheap (bonus!), but because of the weight of the kitties, when I reach the stitch marker, it just glides to the next needle no problemo! I love.
