FO: Malabrigo Rasta Scarf

Malabrigo Rasta Scarf

This was probably the quickest knit I’ve ever made, even counting the two times I ripped half of it out. The pattern is the Super-Fast, Ultra-Cozy Scarf by Jen Reilly [Ravelry link]. It called for US 19 (15mm) and CO 10 stitches, but I used US 15 (10mm) needles which worked fine. Also, I tried casting on 10 stitches and it seemed too skinny. I ripped it out and cast on 12 and it didn’t seem to make a difference, so I cast on 14 and it seems great. I really liked the colour-mixing that was happening with only 10 stitches, and it pools a little more than desireable at 14 stitches, but at knit night both wenchlette and yarnpiggy said that it won’t matter once it’s on my neck. The scarf itself is a little bit on the short side (due to the extra 4 stitches) but it still makes a nice cozy knot at my chin. I was inspired by yarnpiggy’s Instant Gratification scarf made from Mal Rasta. I fell in love with it so much I went out to find the same colourway. I’m not quite 100% happy with the more muted tones of my skein, but they’re still beautiful. View my Rasta Scarf on my Ravelry project page.

FO: Herringbone Cowl

Herringbone Cowl FO - blocking in the sun

This has been my “stupid knitting” project for some time. Why is it “stupid knitting”? #1: It’s simple pattern is perfect to take to Knitting Meetup where I am constantly distracted and just plain chatty. #2: I’m stupid and forget to mark down where in the pattern I am and then just randomly pick it up the next week (or 2 or 3 weeks later) and keep knitting. So the resulting FO (finished object) may not be my best work, but it would be an excellent pattern had I paid attention. Pattern: Herringbone Cowl by Lauren Osbourne [Ravelry link] Yarn: Nashua Ivy (held double) in “Soft Violet” Needles: 5mm circulars View my Ravelry Project Page. This second photo represents the true colour of the yarn. I think that this is a good pattern, and if I knit it again I’m going to mark what row I finished on so when I pick it up again, I’m not just guessing. Also, I don’t think holding the yarn double did the pattern justice. I wanted it to be nice and squishy but I think it would have been better with more breathing room.

Knitted Snakeys for Charity

henry-yarn-snob-snake

I’ve mentioned several times that Henry is a yarn snob, so I knit him a new snakey out of 100% wool scraps (Cascade 220). Once I finished his snakey, I moved on to the three snakes I’ve committed to knit for the Vancouver Fibre League’s charity challenge. They’re due on Thursday, May 27 but Sara (aka wenchlette) is already winning with 15 blankets for the SPCA. I’ve already committed to donating a prize (a pair of earrings designed by Monnibo Designs) and so I checked with Sara what colour she wanted.

Dad’s Second Pair of Felted Slippers

Felted slippers (no soles)

Dad loved his felted slippers that I made him for Christmas 2007. In fact, this past summer I had to mend them just so he could keep wearing them. For his birthday (in April) I planned to make him a new pair. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to knit them in time, but he understood. I finished them a while ago, felted them and let them dry. I brought them over to my dad’s house tonight so I could put the leather soles on and see how they fit. Ravelry Project Page – Dad’s 2nd Felt Clogs Pattern: Fiber Trends Felted Clogs (AC-33) Yarn: Cascade 220 – 100% wool Needles: US size 13 (9mm) For the suede bottoms, I got a piece of scrap leather from the fabric store and traced the slippers. Then I added 1-2 inches around and cut out the bottoms. To cut holes for my needle, I used a leather belt-hole cutter. I set the holes about 1cm apart all around the edge about 0.5cm from the edge of the fabric. Then I pinned the heel, the toe, and the sides so the sole wouldn’t slip while I sewed it to the slipper. The only problem is because they are not fitted (like the soles you buy from Fiber Trends) they have puckered slightly around the edges.

Knit & Crochet Blog Week: Day 6

Knit and Crochet Blog Week 2010

Revisit a past FO (finished object): Bring the fortune and life of a past finished project up to the present. Document the current state and use of an object you have knitted or crocheted, whether it is the hat your sister wears to school almost every day, or a pair of socks you wore until they were full of hole. Or maybe that jumper that your did just didn’t like that much…
