Declutter FAIL

declutter-spring-challenge09How is the Declutter Challenge going for you? With only a month left, I am failing miserably. I thought that moving would be the perfect opportunity to declutter. I’ve never moved house before and I’ve been in the same bedroom for 21 years. Well, instead of throwing useless things out and donating unused items… I find myself going on CraigsList and adopting other people’s declutter items.

Why? Because I am moving into a one-bedroom apartment and have nothing of my own for the kitchen and household. I needed utensils, plates, pots and pans, vacuum cleaner, mop, broom, all that kind of general “communal” stuff that you find in your house. So a couple weekends ago, I picked up 4 boxes of stuff and several pieces of furniture from a lady who was moving to Ontario. She needed to get rid of it, I wanted to keep it… win-win situation which didn’t cost me a dime (except for gas).

Unfortunately I don’t have pictures… I do have lots of the renovation but they’re on my laptop and I’m at work (bad Monica!). So you’ll have to take my word for it — the apartment is chaos. We’re painting, renovating, getting new carpets, re-tiling the bathroom — pure chaos. And I just keep collecting things like a packrat!

So far I am Declutter FAIL… but the Declutter Challenge Blog is being updated! How are things going for you?

I actually did a yard sale with a neighbor and got rid of a bunch of “big” stuff, like strollers and car seats…things that were taking up a lot of room. Made $80 in just a couple hours, so I can’t complain! :-)

Um… I sold three bags last week. Does that count? I need to go through my shoes too. Some old flipflops need to retire.

Let’s just say I’m not doing so hot either.

Congrats on the apartment, how fun! I recently recycled most of my plastic storage containers and bought a nice, nesting set. My cupboard thanked me :)

While I’m not doing the decluttering challenge (it is always a challenge here…), I did just purge a huge amount from my front closet and organized. Feels good. Now, it is on to my crafting stuff (YIKES).

In all honesty, my house looks like it threw up on itself right now. Nice visual huh?

I’m way behind on de-cluttering my own house, but I completely emptied and cleaned out ANOTHER house. Does that count? Also, buying stuff you need for the apartment isn’t anti-decluttering.

De-cluttering is not working for me right now. Maybe when the sun comes out again:)

I have failed miserably! I have gotten rid of a few boxes of stuff… but I just don’t seem to haven enough time in every day to do all that I want to do… which includes getting rid of the clutter. For some reason that one keeps getting pushed aside. :)

Did I miss a post somewhere that told about your new apartment?! Congrats!

I thought moving would be perfect too, but I’m also struggling. The areas I proposed to do haven’t been touched at all. Of the books I was giving away only a couple have gone and my Op Shop bag is nowhere near full.

Of course we have been in limbo with not knowing about the house, but we also won’t actually be moving until after June 1.

We currently have boxes everywhere in our house, mostly full of books, or waiting to be filled. These have blocked one of the areas that I was going to focus on.
Hopefully I will be able to get on with things … maybe …

I have to say that I am failing as well. I have to find time to do it…I’m bogged down by review copies again this month…hmmm time to cut back.

I’ve been trying to declutter for years (and failing), but I’m not very motivated. Moving helps, but it’s different when you’re just getting out on your own for the first time. There are basics you need. I wouldn’t worry about that. You’ll get there.
