Tea Talk: Hot Tea Introductions
January 6th, 2009 by monnibo | Alongs, Swap
Share your favorite hot tea memories with me. Who introduced you to hot tea?
I started drinking tea when I was about 6 years old. My dad was born in England and grew up with a British mother, so it was hard-wired into him. He would make my sister and I a cup of tea every morning with breakfast. Albeit it was probably more milk and sugar then, but we grew up on it. When I was little I had a tea set with cups, saucers, a tea pot, a milk jug, and even a cookie plate. I used to lay a blanket out on the floor and have a tea party with my stuffed animals.
Since then I’ve had at least a cup of tea a day, if not three or four. I have a cup of tea in the morning with breakfast, and another in the afternoon, and often one when I head to bed with my book. Maybe I have a problem? Have you heard of any tea addict support groups?
I was heartily accepted by my boyfriend’s family by my “yes please” to the offer of tea. Hahah. My boyfriend also knows me well enough to offer me a cup of tea every so often, and when we lived together for a few months he used to wake me up by bringing me tea in bed…. then yelling at me that it was getting cold when I fell back asleep!

I started loving tea when I was about 7, but I started with the strong stuff. No cambric tea for me! My tea consumption – caffeinated! – is at least 6-7 cups a day. It’s my comfort, my pleasure, and my remedy for so much …

I don’t even remember my first cup of tea…I was probably three or four. My mom introduced me to it. I would drink black tea with no more than a teaspoon of sugar (my mom didn’t want a kid loaded on sugar – caffeine? fine. sugar? not so much). Now I drink a few cups a day with coffee thrown in for good measure. But nothing is like a good cup of tea (no sugar for me now though and many varieties). Lovely!

Sounds like me and my husband. lol He constantly fusses at me for “wasting good tea” in the mornings.

Yay! Thanks for joining us, and for admitting you’re a tea addict. I happen to think that’s a good thing…

A support group sounds like tea drinking is a problem – noooo!!! One of our politicians here in the UK, a guy called Tony Benn, is in his eighties and claims only ever to drink tea. So it can’t be that bad!
(…do I sound defensive?…)
