Weekends in the ‘burbs

If you haven’t noticed, I rarely update on weekends. I also often mention “camp” or “the ranch” and “boyfriend”. Well — long story short, Boyfriend’s distant cousins own a Children’s Camp here in B.C. I live in Vancouver and have been going to the camp since I was 10 years old. (Yes that’s where Boyfriend and I met). Well he is working there this summer, and for the first summer in 5 years, I am not. But I go out on weekends to sunny Aldergrove — between Langley & Abbotsford in the Fraser Valley. It’s an hour drive on the highway, but it’s nice and quiet when there are no campers around!

View of Mount Baker (in Washington, USA) from Highway 99.

Zero Road border markers.

No joke! Stand on the other side of this marker and you’re in the USA. Don’t get any funny ideas though! They monitor this border even though it’s not an official crossing.

Amazing view from Zero Road facing north (back at B.C.)

Sunset on Mt. Baker from Highway 1 (eastbound).

And here are the camp grounds (from the website which I built and maintain):

Barn & playground

Volleyball Court

Dorms

The pool (which I was the lifeguard of for 2.5 summers)

And the video I altered for a “virtual tour”. The original I used in my film class last summer to do “intro credits” for a movie (fake one about horses obviously)… and then I just took some more footage of the camp and rearranged it to some country music for virtual tour. My boss wishes I had got footage of inside the dorms, but it didn’t occur to me at the time. Visit the website for more videos.

Hey! Thanks for your comment on my blog. I’m glad you’ve found a way to work with books, even if you’re not doing any editing, yet.
I’ve considered going into proofreading, too, but haven’t pursued that. I figured it’d get me working with words (and/or doing some reading!), but I thought, If I’m going to spend $300 on something to get me working, I’d rather put it towards the first course in my MLIS degree than in something (like Proofreading) that’d be only temporary until I could afford to get my MLIS courses. LOL
Currently, I’m an Independent Book Reviewer, so that’s cool — I love doing that! I just wish I got paid for it! LOL. :P

What a fabulous place to spend your summers, and now your weekends! We don’t have a camp culture at all here in the UK, I’ve often thought what I great thing it would be to do!

How beautiful. And it looks cool and refreshing, unlike my Mid-Atlantic humidity…
