I’m reluctant to share this one… because I’m selfish and greedy and all that… but I suppose I shall (now that I’ve claimed 2 books). The Book Expo took place in Toronto two weeks ago, and Lex is hosting the Mini Book Expo for Bloggers.
The motto: Claim it ~ Read it ~ Blog it! (Note: This is open to Canadians only because Lex got a couple Canadian companies to sponsor the shipping costs).
Buy A Friend A Book Week occurs the first weeks of every January, April, July, and October. In Spring it is the Dawn is hosting a giveaway from her “re-homing pile”. Let her know I sent you and tell her which book you’re interested in reading!
Other book giveaways include: 14 Book Giveaway for up to 5 lucky winners. It including fiction, history, memoirs, and romance titles for a whole summer’s supply of reading from Hachette Group. Visit Trish at Hey Lady! Whatcha reading…? to enter! Tell her I sent you! (USA & Canada only).
Zazazu, the host of the Thrift Shop Thrift Swap that I made a button for, asked me if I wouldn’t mind making another button for her Fresh Start Promise Giveaway. I just wanted to let you guys know in case you’re interested (Don’t enter me in the giveaway! It wouldn’t be fair.)
Here’s something fun to share — I want to get a pedal-assisted electric scooter. If it is under 49cc’s (engine size) then I don’t need to have insurance, I just need a helmet! Where I’m going to school in September is downtown, and all the classes are afternoon/evening. I don’t want to drive because of the congestion downtown and the cost of parking, but my parents don’t want me taking the bus so late at night. It’s a long bike ride, but a scooter could be perfect! A bonus is that with the rising price of gas, this baby would be mainly (if not totally) electric!
In other “vehicle news”, my car isn’t doing so well. It’s a 1988 Mercedes Benz 190E; an old but durable car. However, the previous owners (whoever they were – we got it at an auction) didn’t take care of it properly and it’s dying sooner than it should. The engine is full of cracks and leaks, things squeak and wiggle, and the glue holding the interior is falling to bits. The car still runs, and it gets about 24mpg, and it’s safe to drive (which is the important thing), but it won’t last much longer. My dad said it isn’t worth it to fix all the issues, and because it’s considered a “luxury car” (because it’s a Benz, despite it’s age) the cost of parts and labour and insurance is greatly increased.
So the tentative plan is to run my baby into the ground. It sounds sad, but it’s better than my mom’s plan of “sell it now and save the hassle”. Who would buy this dying vehicle and not scrap it for parts? It’s sad because it’s my first car and I’ve grown attached and fond of it’s idiosyncrasies.
I’ve always wanted to Drive across Canada. I’ve had this plan/idea for several years – drive from West to East, ditch the car, and fly home. Dad thinks this is a great idea — find someone on CraigsList to buy the car in Nova Scotia, or Newfoundland, take a few weeks to drive across Canada, and then fly home. I’m beginning to think this would be a grand finish to my car — leave in a blaze of glory! I found this Canada Trip Calculator online which includes your car’s miles per gallon as well as the cost of fuel. It’s really neat… so maybe I’ll be doing this next summer!
P.S. I’m nearing 1000 posts… I HAVE A CONTEST COMING UP!!

Okay…I’m trying to imagine you on the scooter. ;-) The trip across Canada sounds like fun, though!
My grandparents drove all the way across Canada once – I only saw pictures and heard the stories – one about how they had a flat tire in a remote area where they had not seen another car for hours – and as they got out to fix the flat a RCMP drove up…
