Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (book review)

April 22nd, 2008 by monnibo

The first book in the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyers is a young adult novel about a young girl who falls in love with a vampire. Isabella Swan soon learns shocking secrets about his entire family — they are all vampires — but cannot figure out why Edward Cullen wants nothing to do with her. When Bella discovers she is deliciously enticing to Edward, she also learns that falling in love with a vampire comes with consequences.

I read Twilight in only four sittings, it was that compelling. I thought that the first part of the novel was set up very well — with Bella moving to Washington and starting a new school, and being drawn to the Cullen’s family (the vampires). Edward’s cold attitude towards Bella was shocking and enticing, it made you want to keep reading to see how it would be resolved.

However, I thought that the transition between the resolution of the beginning and the set up, and moving on to the main plot was a bit rushed. It was almost like a shrug of the shoulders and that was that — Edward didn’t ignore Bella and BAM! they were in love. Despite this very minor detail, the main plot and set-up of the entire series was absolutely satisfying and enjoyable.

I now want to read New Moon and Eclipse (the next two in the series). Also, Breaking Dawn, the final installment of the Twilight Series comes out August 2, 2008. I remember how excited my camp friends were when Eclipse came out last summer (2007), and I definitely think I’ll be with them for Breaking Dawn this summer!

Breaking Dawn will be the last novel from Bella’s point of view. Meyer is also planning to write Midnight Sun (an accompany novel) which is the story of Twilight told from Edward’s point of view. It is to be a companion novel but Meyer is unsure of publication at this point. Stephenie Meyer’s first novel for adults, The Host, comes out May 6, 2008.

Todos Santos, Baja, Mexico

April 22nd, 2008 by monnibo

It’s great to be home. I mean, Mexico was an experience, but I’m not much of a hot-weather gal… and I kinda burn with 60 SFP and sitting in the shade. It’s a talent.

Here comes a big post with photos and reports… so grab some tea, coffee, cocoa, knitting, all of the above… and enjoy!!

April 16th

I got up crazy early… I’m talking 3am because the taxi was scheduled to arrive at 4am. The flight from Vancouver to La Paz, Mexico stops in LA so I had to go through US Customs. And now can I just say that US Customs are crazy? They are on crack and have some serious sticks up their bums!! No joke… I was “Random Extra Check #44″ and they patted me down and took sample swabs of my bags. It was ridiculous. Not to mention how far we had to carry our bags and how many security checks and scans and officers we had to talk to. I could NOT believe it!

Anyway, here are some photos from our house in Todos Santos, in Baja California South on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The house is called Casa Antigua. The other photos are from Playita Los Palmos (The Palm Beach).
