… it’s over already?

I find that I’m only doing Booking Through Thursday when I like the topic. *shame* Hehhe actually no, I’m not ashamed! Why force a blog post just to participate? You’ve just reached the end of a book . . . what do you do now? Savor and muse over the book? Dive right into the next one? Go take the dog for a walk, the kids to the park, before even thinking about the next book you’re going to read? What? (Obviously, there can be more than one answer, here–a book with a cliff-hanger is going to engender different reactions than a serene, stand-alone, but you get the idea! First, I write my blog post about the book! During that process I can savour the book and muse over my thoughts and feelings. I like to do it as soon as possible because the book and feelings are still fresh in my mind. You’ll see that The Other Boleyn Girl (written an hour after finishing) is much more in-depth about my opinions than The Book Thief which I didn’t get to until a few days later. Second, I chose the next book. If it’s a book in a series such as Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth series, I read the next one…. until I’m out of books. (I still need to read the last in the series but I’ve been distracted). Sometimes if it’s a really big cliff-hanger, I pick up the next book straight away. Blogging about my books [...]

Knit and Purrrrl

knitandpurrrl

I ordered this shirt a couple weeks ago from Worsted Knitt through Shirts of Berlin. I was PMing back and forth with Worsted Knitt on Ravelry asking about shirt sizes and colours, etc. I absolutely love the shirt!! (Sorry for the crappy photo… just using Photobooth on the Mac). Perfect fit — Fruit of the Loom shirt and the exact colours I wanted. Worsted Knitt has some new designs in this week, but I still love my choice! You can get her designs on bags as well as a variety of styles of shirts. There is both a US shop, an EU shop, and then Shirts of Berlin (EU discount shop).

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory (book review)

theotherboleyngirl

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory was one of those books that you cannot put down! I thoroughly enjoyed the story of two sisters – Anne and Mary Boleyn – competing with each other and the world for the love of King Henry VIII. The story focused on Mary Boleyn who was taken as the King’s mistress when she was only fourteen, and put aside when her sister Anne caught the King’s fancy. Mary had two kids by King Henry out of wedlock, and watched as her sister had the King denounce Queen Katherine of Aragon and Anne’s rise to power. Philippa Gregory is an amazing author and I can’t wait to read her other titles, as well as her other “Tudor Court” novels. She writes Mary and Anne with such passion and dedication. You can really see Anne as a dark, ruthless, self-managing and seductive young woman; and Mary as a innocent, naive yet loving sister, mistress, and wife. The dialogue is so well crafted, the romantic and courting speech while it is believable it is not mushy-perfect, it is perfectly written with its imperfections. You can hear them as they speak, Gregory carefully places tone and response within a dialogue that is historically based but fictionally created. I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while – definitely before I see the movie. Then CW finally bought me the book as he wanted to take me to the movies for my birthday (this Friday!!). I finished [...]

Finally a Finished Knitted Object!!

craigsscarf3

You thought I knit? You thought right! Haha…. I admit I am a slow knitter, and I definitely like to be motivated and inspired by what I’m making. The unfortunate thing is that I don’t like to start new projects until I’ve finished my old ones. So I’ve had two gifts OTN (on the needles) – one for CW, his Christmas scarf, and one for my mom, the Gothic Leaf Stole – and I haven’t wanted to knit either one! But… I finally finished CW’s scarf last night, and to celebrate I said we should go for a nice long walk today. I wanted to get some photos of him with it. This was my favourite shot, it was when he started walking saying I could get some “action shots”. Cast on any multiple of 3. K1, yo, K2tog.
