Shrove Tuesday was February 5th.. oops

Shrove Tuesday is Pancake Day. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. In addition to all the Catholic & religious meanings, CW told me that the fasting of Lent actually had to do with the farmers’ crops. According to Wikipedia:

The Lenten semi-fast may have originated for practical reasons: during the era of subsistence agriculture in the West as food stored away in the previous autumn was running out, or had to be used up before it went bad in store, and little or no new food-crop was expected soon (compare the period in Spring which British gardeners call the “hungry gap“).

I’ve never “celebrated” Pancake Day as it’s not that big in Vancouver – but it’s really big over here! And, CW usually gives up chocolate for Lent (until Easter) so I said I’d give up coffee (read: Caramel Macchiatos).
