Hardcover or Paperback?

This week’s topic for Booking Through Thursday is…
All other things (like price and storage space) being equal, given a choice in a perfect world, would you rather have paperbacks in your library? Or hardcovers? And why?
Ooo… this is difficult! For reading in bed I do prefer paperbacks just for ease of reading. However, for collections and series (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Sword of Truth) I like to have hardbacks because the collection is for long-time keeps. That being said, I’m not necessarily picky if I’m looking for a book (specific or not); I like to read the books and keep every book I buy.

Agreed! I think if all things were truly equal – like longevity and accepted “collector” values – I would say paperback, hands down, although I do like the cover art on hardback sleeves…

Hmmm, I’d say I prefer paperback, trade, specifically. But I read alot of mass markets too. I like paperbacks because they are easier to hold, lighter to carry around, and take up less shelf space. Also, cheaper, which helps because I can go through books like water! But for certain few things I like hardbacks, especially collector volumes or very special to me titles.
