Getting in the Christmas Spirit

December 10th, 2007 by monnibo

1. Wrapping Paper or Gift Bags? I love wrapping paper. I get my mom to let me wrap my sister’s and my dad’s gifts and I get my dad to let me wrap my mom’s gifts. I love curling ribbon!

2. Real tree or artificial? We’ve always done real in my house. Here in England it seems more common to go artificial so for the past couple Christmas’s I’ve been artificial. My first cat, Ziggy, used to LOVE sitting behind the real tree.

3. When do you put up the tree? Back in Canada — whenever we could. It was always a big deal to go buy the tree at the lot in my Elementary School because everyone wanted a say in what kind of tree. Then when we finally got around to decorating, we got out all the Disney ornaments my dad has collected over the years (official collector’s items). Then we unpacked them all and put them on the coffee table in the living room. We then all sit around and go around in a circle picking ornaments that we want to put up. Dad always picks 1991 Goofy and Skiing Goofy, I always want Drummer Pooh Bear and Angel Pooh Bear, mom always wants Caroling Minnie, and my sister likes a number of them too (I can’t remember them off the top of my head).

4. When do you take down the tree? Again, whenever we got around to it.

5. Do you like Egg Nog? Yes.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Hm. Difficult question. As a child? There was this one Christmas when my parents drove us to a parking lot on Christmas Eve and gave us our bikes as gifts. As an adult: my flight to England to be with CW.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? Nope. CW’s Grandma PC gave me a pattern book that has a knit-Nativity. She made one for her for kids’ houses. Maybe I’ll make one for my house! My mom has a gorgeous wreath on the door every winter that her best friend (my Godmother) made for her.

8. Hardest person to buy for? My uncles. Most of CW’s family (because I don’t know their tastes reeeeally well).

9. Easiest person to buy for? CW. *cough*videogames*cough*

10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Spam. My dad*cough*Santa*cough* thought it would be funny in our stockings.

11. Mail or email Christmas Cards? Post!

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Nightmare Before Christmas. Does that count?

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Uuuu…. once I get inspired or figure things out.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? None that I can think of off the top of my head, but probably.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Mince meat tarts OR mom’s shortbread cookies!

16. Clear lights or colored? On the tree – coloured.

17. Favorite Christmas Song? Good King Wensalas!! (to sing). For amusement’s sake… I love my Punk Rock Christmas Mix!

18. Travel or stay home at Christmas? As of late, travel because of my British BF. Hahah.

19. Can you name all of Santa’s Reindeer? Dasher Dancer Prancer Vixen Comet Cupid Donner Blitzen… RUDOLPH!

20. Angel or Star on the top of the tree? Star.

21. Open Christmas Eve or Morning? The tradition from my childhood is one on Christmas eve, and the rest in the morning.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Lack of money. Crowds.

23. What’s the corniest family tradition you do or miss doing? We don’t really have any ‘corny’ traditions.

24. What’s the worst thing you’ve seen related to Christmas? Umm… I have no idea. I block them out of my memory I suppose.

25. Which looks best, theme trees or homey trees? It all depends. At home we have a mixture of both – it’s a Disney Theme but these are ornaments my dad has spent years collecting. I would love a gorgeous blue/silver tree (my favourite Christmas colours)… but when I have kids I want them to be able to put their creations on the tree. We weren’t allowed to put home-made ornaments on the Disney Tree. When we were really young, dad used to buy a second, smaller tree for the Rec Room (play room in the basement) and we could decorate that with popcorn garlands, bells, fake apples, and home-made ornaments.

26. Gingerbread or Sugar Cookies? SHORTBREAD!

27. Do you like fruitcake? Nonononono. Not at all. Not even when I get to set it on fire first.
