Finished Clogs

Here are the clogs for my dad all felted and shaped. I stuffed the clogs full of plastic bags to shape them while they dried. I must give a huge thanks to momslake on the KR Forum… she helped me with my questions and told me to “just knit and don’t try to understand the instructions.” It sounds silly but honestly, these clogs don’t make sense until you’re completely done knitting one. (I hid them under the sink to dry because my dad would never look there!) And here is my WIP Resolution: No more new projects until I finish the 2 snoozefest scarves… I mean the ribbed scarf for my sister and the scarf for my BF. I only just started the ribbed scarf because I wanted to make her a Christmas gift… and CW’s scarf I’ve been plodding along at for a reeeeeally long while. It’s been the ultimate-UFO-WIP-project. (I don’t know what the pattern or stitch is but it’s K1, yo, K2tog)

Meetups & Patterns

Guess what guess what guess what! I’m almost done my first pair of Fiber Trends Felt Clogs! Look look look! I just have to felt them! On Sunday I went to meet some other Vancouver Knitters at Calhoun’s in Kitsilano. Nice place, really big with lots of tables… yet we still had trouble finding room and chairs! It was full in there, but not packed. We had some nice conversation, talked about WIPs, some people brought out their FOs to show too. There was also the general knitting gossip about KnitPicks Options (ooh … ahh…) as Chelle had a set of the dpns from KnitPicks. I also mentioned the Sheepies Converse I saw on the Converse website. As I mentioned a few posts back, Maggie sent me some lovely blue, purple-flecked, 100% pure alpaca! I cannot wait to knit it up as I’ve decided what to make already! KnitPicks has free patterns and seeing as I’ve never tried Feather and Fan before, I think I’m up for the task: Shadow Scarf (the same pattern also describes knitting the Andean Treasure Shawl and the Suri Dream Throw). As some of you Vancouverites already know, Burnaby Knitworks is closing. I found out on Ravelry’s Terminal City Yarn Wranglers board. So I brought my mom there a couple weekends ago to pick out the yarn for her Gothic Leaf Stole (pattern by Sivia Harding). Basically I walked around the store looking for the weight I needed for the pattern, then showed it to [...]

Knitting and Kitty

Pretty much the day after I posted the Garlerlac Dishcloth, I finished it. Then I had to photograph it with my cat. I also wanted to share a story about my Henry. He and I have a very special relationship that my father says he’s never seen this type of affection in a cat before. I am his mom; when he was a kitten, he would cry downstairs at night, so I bought his food and his litter box up to my room, and let him sleep with me. When he went outside, he got stuck up a tree (one year ago this Thanksgiving!) and I climbed up the ladder to get him down. [He's now an indoor cat because he got stuck up the tree twice more.] Henry sleeps beside my pillow most of the night; he licks my face all over just to say hello several times a day; he plays and chews on my pony tail when I’m holding him; and he sleeps in my bed during the day. My Squishy sits on the top of my computer chair while I’m working; and we wheel my computer chair to the window for him when I’m not using it. He answers to my voice (meows back), comes when I call (by a variety of names), and follows me around the house. It is going to be very difficult to live without my Henry and I hope that he doesn’t have some cat-depression when I leave.

Sew Sentimental Duffel

My duffel bag has gotten me through a lot: 5 summers at Horse Camp, 3 trips to Camp Squeah with school, the sailing trip in 2004 (can you spot my bag in the photo of all our gear on the dock?), and a road trip to San Fransisco. A couple weeks ago, I decided that because I was going to be doing planes and trains now, with my move to England, my duffel bag needed wheels. Why buy a new bag when you can just attach wheels yourself? Brilliant idea! I went to Home Depot and bought wheels and screws with acorn nuts (to cover the pointy end of the screw) and I was planning to attach wheels to my old duffel bag. The man at Home Depot spent at least 20 minutes in the nuts/bolts/screws isle trying to explain the different sizes to me. *Whoosh over my head* I just wanted something that would stay put and not rip into my clothes. Brilliant idea my ass… I realized that the bottom would just sag in the middle between the pulling handle and the new wheels. I pondered with the idea of reinforcing the bottom of the bag with plywood or aluminum tubes, but realized that it would be best to just buy a new bag. Not to mention I never fixed the holes in the bottom where the proposed wheels were going to go because instead of carrying it properly, I usually just drag it across the ground. The [...]

Finished Facecloths (or almost)

The pattern, called Janet’s Tea Pot by Rainy Kimbrough, can be found here (with many other patterns). Facecloth #2: Have I mentioned lately how much I hate largely-variegated yarn? I absolutely hate schizophrenic colours! So I went looking for a pattern for “Creamsicle” by Bernat Handicrafter Cotton. If you remember, I started to knit Anne’s Dishcloth Contest with it… and ripped it out whole heartedly. *evil evil pooling colours* So here is Garterlac Dishcloth (so far) by Dave at Criminy Jickets. It’s a really great design for variegated yarns… especially this evil creamsicle cotton. The pattern can be found here, on Dave’s blog (hello fellow Canadian!) P.S. The banner has been updated! Interesting bit of trivia: the outfit is one I actually own!
