Slippers and Facecloths

Finished the slippers: Also bought a bunch of cotton yarn from Michael’s. On the KR Forum, it was suggested that I look for either Sugar N Creme or Peaches N Creme. The lady at Michael’s told me they’d just had a sale and sold out. So I bought Bernat Cotton instead. So I’ve started knitting facecloths. I’m going to gift them at Christmas with some nice soaps. On another note — CW’s friend NJ is here from England. He’s getting into camp and enjoying riding. He’s a pretty funny guy and CW seems really happy that he’s here. (Here is a photo of their laundry — only 2 of the 5 loads I did this weekend!)

Helene received her Vancouver Vacation!

This is the package before it was to leave. My Henry was very interested in it and tried to run away with a skein of yarn at one point. I’m so excited — Helene got her KVVS Swap Package!! I spoiled her Vancouver-style (minus the Starbucks because she doesn’t drink coffee). She lives in France, and she virtually vacationed here in Beautiful British Columbia, Canada! You can see all of her lovely discoveries on her blog post about receiving the package. I was very worried that she wouldn’t like the Hemp for Knitting by Lanaknits because she enjoys to knit with silk. But I knitted and washed a swatch to show her that it does become soft. Turns out, Helene bought some Hemp for Knitting last year but her swatch didn’t turn out so soft and she never knit it up. If anyone is knitting with hemp — the washing machine is your friend (not inside a pillowcase like felting). Unfortunately at the post office I couldn’t send it in the box because it was too heavy. It was over the weight limit that I could afford so I had to put it in a bubble package and take out the Vancouver Magazine and a couple pamphlets. (Sorry Helene!) Oh and I couldn’t send my Squishy because I love him too much… and Helene told me she has 4 cats! I’m so excited to go home every weekend…. thinking about the package that might be waiting there! I’m working out [...]

ONE slipper

Some might remember my blue booties that I posted about… they are my favourite slippers because we have hardwood floors. But they’re not too tight like socks… and not too thick like proper slippers… yet they are getting thin. I wanted to “recreate” them – only the patterns that were suggested to me were simplified and didn’t look the same as mine. I know it sounds silly – but if it’s comfy, why mess with it? MY BEGINNINGS IN SOCK-RELATED KNITTING (drumroll please…………) Well it’s slow going, but it’s okay. I was altering the pattern a little as went, because I wanted a heel flappy bit, not just the two sides stitched together. (My way makes the foot opening sit open more. So I’m knitting along, I only really changed the heel, and the base for the foot (knit all the bottom not K1P1 in the toe)…. but something went wrong when I followed the instructions to BO the toe. Yes, I followed the instructions. I guess because my yarn was bulkier… but for whatever reason, it came out really weird. See photo on the left. My solution: Rip out the seam and frog out the BO… then knit about 6 more rows (since it was a bit snug anyway) and then try the BO again (as well as sewing closed the hole a little). Fabulous! I’m glad I wrote down what I did because now I have to make Slipper #2.

Try something new?

Desire to felt: Seeing Ingrid’s felted clogs (pattern & image here by Fiber Trends) inspired me to … umm… purchase the pattern! (See the pattern FO to the right) It’s going to be my first felted project. Also, I’ve never knit socks because once I knit one of something, I usually want to try something new. The only problem right now is that the shipping is blinkin’ outrageous for just a pattern! I’m not paying $11 shipping for a piece of paper (aka pattern). So this weekend I’m going to check a couple yarn stores that aren’t quite local. Ravelry Update: * You signed up on July 16, 2007 * You are #16890 on the list. * 8456 people are ahead of you in line. * 7201 people are behind you in line. * 34% of the list has been invited so far Random Henry Photo Break: This is my Squishy bathing in the sun. It looks like he has no legs. His chubchub & fur covers him completely. (Note to CW: I said chubchub not fat. Henry is not fat.) Ready for Vacation? I’ve just finished up the Virtual Photo Tour I’m making, burned it to DVD, and now I’m ready to send off my KVVS Package. I’m still a little worried about the yarn… since it’s not her style… but I picked a pattern that calls for that yarn, and it looks like something she would want to knit. Cross our fingers!I’ve showed my parents and my friends… [...]
