Smallest Phone Available

Samsung S307 (see right) — I’ve owned it for 3 1/2 years. Evan has been trying to get me to buy a new phone for aaages… but I would always tell him, “It’s not broken!” Even when it went for a wash in the washing machine, it still recovered. It just didn’t have a front display anymore. Heh… heh…. But Monday while I was babysitting, part of the plastic on the front that covers the track for the flippable part broke off – so the whole “flipping” idea is quite a hassle. Samsung E600 — not only is the the same size, but it is Tri-Band which means I can take it to England with me! And it has a camera (which is neat but I don’t mind either way). Yaaay Tri-Band & identical size!!   The new phone is on the left and my old phone is on the right. IDENTICAL!

All Beauty, No Brains

CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT! CAT UP A TREE! Henry got stuck up a tree again. The one by the garage. I got up on the garage roof because we couldn’t see him from the ground. He was actually quite high up and there was no way I was going to be able to reach him. We had to leave him up the tree over night. This morning my mom found him hiding in the bushes in the back alley. CW was right – he would find a way to get down. He told me that cats always do – eventually they come down because they’re either a) hungry, or b) have to use the litter box! My mom’s concern was raccoons and coyotes. But I told her that he’s about the size of a raccoon, and they are scavengers so Henry wouldn’t be an interest. And with him being stuck up a tree, coyotes aren’t a concern because they can’t climb trees. Besides, it was in our backyard. My only concern is I think that Henry poked his eye with a branch because he’s squinting in one eye. If he’s still squinting in a few days I will take him into the vet to make sure that nothing is stuck in there and getting infected. KNITTING So I’ve been slowly knitting CW’s new scarf – yea it’s my side project. It’s a super simple stitch, and it’s reversible which is nice. I found it as a free pattern here. It’d [...]

Computer Techs… grrrr

Computer Technicians need to stay ahead of the average user. I’ve been having issues while switching over to my laptop full time. I want to use my old PC hard drive as an external hard drive – so I bought a kit and installed it and ta da! I have an external hard drive. So I plug it into my MacBook and try to recover my files — mainly my school files, business files, photos and music. Everything is going peachy, until I try to recover my iTunes. All the files are “invisible” to protect music pirating. Now part of the problem is with iTunes; to discourage people from plugging in each other’s iPods and just dragging and dropping music, the files on an iPod are invisible too. So I downloaded TinkerTool for Macs, hoping to be able to access these invisible files on my iPod and recover my 3000+ songs. To be honest, I think that the average user would be using their iPod to recover after a hard drive crash or something – it’s another form of media backup. But, Apple never asked me… and TinkerTool only recovered 1300 songs. Apple describes how to move your library from one computer to another, but I didn’t think I’d need to prep for the move seeing as my hard drive was becoming external to my laptop. Anyway – so I give my mom my (new!) external hard drive, and my iPod (just in case) and she brings it into the [...]

New Mac & Flash Class

This is my old PC… I opened up the side and stole my hard drive! MOOHARHAR! This is my new External Hard Drive. I built it myself after I removed my hard drive from my PC tower. OMG I’m so tech savvy! And this is my gorgeous new MacBook! Everyone say hello! Other than this, I’ve just made it through the first week of summer semester. I don’t really know what to think about how the rest of the term is going to turn out. Advertising which is mandatory for us to be able to get our Publishing Certificate, is SO dry. Besides, I’m not really interested in Advertising anyway. Hopefully it’ll perk up, but as Ginger (I think) mentioned, the teacher is kind of intimidating. The Self-Promotion class with Giselle I’m excited about. We are tailoring resumes and cover letters right now for specific jobs. She has compiled a huge book with old job postings from the newspaper and stuff, and I found one from a couple years back that was for an Assistant Editor for the Georgia Straight. So now I have to create my resume and cover letter with this job post in mind. It’s gonna be a neat semester – we’ll end up working on our portfolios too. Intro to New Media is interesting… a little like film studies, but we end up getting to make movies and cut/edit video footage and then we’ll learn how to make a DVD. We’re using Studio Cut Pro. I’m [...]

Knitting Forum

Hahah I just read a great thing in the Knitters Review Forum. Recently, one hot topic has been your yarn stash. Someone posted about why we acquire so much yarn: “I’m curious about those of you who buy loads of yarn with no purpose for it. Do you buy it just to put in a basket and touch, squeeze, etc.? Do you buy it with the intention of using it someday? If so, how do you know how much to buy? Don’t you worry that you’ll buy too much and have lots of extra with nothing to do with it, or you’ll buy too little and not be able to complete your project?” Then there was a reply: “Not *everyone* does it. I think we hear about it more because it’s interesting to talk about, and not very interesting to talk about the alternative. Sample blog entry: I didn’t buy any yarn today. Here’s a picture of my empty windowsill, because I did not put any new yarn there, and another picture of my closet, which is filled with perfectly normal non-yarn things. I think that I will not make anything with my non-yarn I did not buy. Here is a broken link to the non-pattern that I am not considering. It will probably fit much better than my last sweater, but I will have to wear a camisole under it to be decent in public. Tomorrow, I plan on not buying yarn again!” – sanity101 So funny! Personally, I [...]
