Ramsbottom

My Time: 10:00pm. I’ve been down to Ramsbottom a couple times in the last few days. A few days ago I walked down on my own to get some groceries. The walk down takes about 20 minutes, but it’s the walk back that is killer. The hills to return are on a 15 degree incline which doesn’t sound like much, but when you have a bag of potatoes and a 2 litre bottle of Fanta Fruit Twist (among other essentials) it’s death. Today CW and I walked down to pick up some kitty litter for Flossy and Charlie and some dog treats for Ava. We also grabbed a few groceries (yet again) and then Fish and Chips for dinner. The fish was really nice – they fried it right when you ordered it so it was nice and fresh. The chips had cooled down by the time we got them home so they weren’t as tasty, but I adored my malt vinegar. Just as we were getting into town, approaching Ramsbottom Station, a train steams in hissing and hooting. It’s titled “Santa Express” or something like that and it pulls into the station. I snapped a few photos – I thought it was awesome. It was totally old-style train with coal coloured engine and steam pouring from beneath the wheels as it screeched to a halt. It was totally different from the bullet Virgin trains we catch from Picadilly Station into London. Speaking of London – Heathrow is totally bottled up due to the fog. It’s relatively foggy [...]

Just a few photos

Hey everyone! My Time: 7:40pm. So I just thought I’d upload a few pictures for everyone to see. I have no idea if anyone gives a crap if I write in this, I’m guessing not seeing as no one has commented. It feels like people don’t even care that I’m gone… but then again a lot of people didn’t even try to talk to me while I was home. Either way, I have email and I have my blog and that facebook thing. So, you can contact me if you miss me. Enjoy the photos! This is the view of Ramsbottom and the countryside from where I’m staying. This is Ava. Flossy is the calico kitten and Charlie is the ginger cat. This is the crazy one-man-band on the street that I had to take a picture of. I had a feeling JP would fall in love with him – he can be her new best friend. This is Manchester Town Hall with the German Market out front and gigantic Father Christmas atop the hall. Build-A-Bear Workshop

When I first heard about Build-A-Bear Workshop I thought it sounded creepy; mainly because the first time I saw it, employees and kids were singing and doing hand-clapping in the middle of the store. When I saw Oprah make a bear, when she held the heart to warm it and give it a wish, and then they fluffed the bear, I thought it was a neat idea. Now, much to your surprise perhaps, I love the Build-A-Bear Workshop idea! Here’s what changed… The first time I bought something from it was for a birthday – one of my old friends and her mom had bears that they dressed for every occasion. They were American so I sent them a “Someone from Vancouver loves me” shirt and a “I Heart Canada” shirt. This sort of introduced me to the idea – although I still thought it a bit extravagant for just a bear. The next time I thought to buy something from Build-A-Bear was when my neighbours, whom I babysit for, were expecting. They have two girls who I’ve babysat for about 6 years and they had a baby boy in February 2006. My family and I bought a Build-A-Bear Gift Certificate which allowed the family to come in and warm the heart and give it a wish and fluff the bear and all that jazz – for the new addition, Eric. When they went, I’m sure they had a blast, and their mom ended up getting three bears! One for [...]

6 and 4

Six days (including today) until I leave (technically seven until I arrive due to the time zones) and four days until my party. Today I went in to school to work on the Magazine Project with Ginger; we got a lot of work done! We’ve decided to do a modern, young, knitting and sewing magazine. I love how much we’ve done so far. We only had to do a two-page spread – but basically because I love typesetting so much, we’ve done two two-page spreads. Heheh…. It’s pullquote, endbat, jumpline heaven! Hahah okay I sound really dorky I know. So we printed to Splash (thats the colour printer) and made some adjustments. We were aiming to be done for Friday (the original deadline before it was extended), but I think we’ll be done by Thursday. Keep your finger’s crossed. The new and improved extended deadline is Tuesday… which doesn’t work seeing as I have to pack! Speaking of packing – I haven’t started. I’ve not even started thinking about it. I’ll do it Sunday and Monday. Anything I don’t have I’ll buy on Tuesday before the flight. OR I can buy it in Heathrow; I have about a two hour lay-over before I fly to Manchester. MANCHESTER (technical) COUNTDOWN: 5 days: 5 hour: 31 minutes: 49 seconds.
