Happy GobbleGobble Day

First things first: HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVAN!! Thanksgiving was quite eventful for our family. First of all, our cat got himself stuck up a tree for nearly 4 hours. Apparently we couldn’t just let him figure it out and climb down. He was first only halfway up and was meowing, so my dad stuck a bamboo pole at him. Dad thought that this would help him get down, but it scared Henry further up the tree. So he’s sitting up there, 25 feet in the air, and my sister calls the Animal Shelter, who tell us that he’ll come down when he’s hungry. So of course, this upsets my mother… and it’s Thanksgiving and we have skunks and racoons leaving in the neighbourhood. When my Uncle and cousin arrived, my Uncle Jim said “Oh Daniel can climb up there!” But he didn’t seem to realize that the branches wouldn’t hold his 10 year old son. If it could hold a person, I would have already climbed up. My mom also said “If anyone was to go up, it should be Monica because he knows her. Henry loves her, he follows her around.” Then my Uncle said that he’ll climb out on the roof and reach across into the tree and grab him. My dad (slightly sarcasically) said, “Yea, but you’d have to jump at the tree, launch yourself towards the cat, grab him, toss him on the roof and then hopefully land in the tree.” It ended up with my dad [...]

Birthday Weekend!

Friday: Happy 18th Birthday Solly! Saturday: Happy 18th Birthday Anna! Sunday: Happy 18th Birthday Evan! On Friday night, Anna, Kas, Eka, Janice, Nigel, Leana and I went to Solly’s birthday party. He had it on Main in the place we learned to ballroom dance for Anna’s birthday last year. Well, it was $10 cover, no alcohol, no drugs, his parents were helping keep it clean and Solly was DJing with a friend. Turns out that Solly forgot to tell me the theme: Your Favourite Porn Star. Eka and I left after a half hour. That was about as much as we could handle; we showed up and respectfully stayed that long… not that respect seemed to matter much in that atmosphere. It was just a littlebitlittlebit slutty…. and by littlebitlittlebit I mean that’s how short their skirts were. Honestly, they were dressed like pornstar/prostitutes! The guys were lifting up skirts (not that they needed to) as these 15/16 year olds were grinding into each other. There were “dancing platforms” that Solly had built – neat idea, bad combination with the lack of ass-coverage. One guy came over and gave us all hugs when we first arrived — creepy! He was like “I’m a porn star!” because he’d written the word ‘pornstar’ on his white wifebeater with a Sharpie marker. He started grinding into Kas, who turns around and asks, “How old are you?” His answer: Grade 11. She dances/moves away… so he moves over to Janice and begins to grind. [...]

Camera Cords

I had a totally better post in mind, but right now what’s bugging me beyond belief is that I can’t find the camera cord! I have camera cords, but none are the right one. I know I can remove the memory card and shove it into that slot in my printer, but this is not the problem… (something in there sounded dirty) My issue is that photos were taken with NO memory card in the camera… therefore the photos (seven of them) are on the internal memory. Now the only way I can even fathom to get at them, is with this goddamn camera cord which NO LONGER EXISTS IN MY HOUSEHOLD. I’ve tried so hard to keep all the cords for this camera together. My mother constantly insists on relocating them… but I found plugged into the USB slot in the front of my tower is the safest spot for them. ALAS – IT IS NOT THERE! Any suggestions? In the menu I’ve tried to “Auto Transfer” and “Print Set” or something like that… but it does nothing without a goddamn cord plugged into something bigger and better (i.e. computer). Someone help me! Nikon Coolpix cord?? *throws camera across room* I’ve had enough of you. I’m really sick and tired of you. You know it wouldn’t bug me as much if they weren’t nice photos from the summer. If they were just everyday, Henry photos or something, I could manage. But I don’t have any of them like this. [...]

Keener vs. Nerd

I HATE THE WORD KEENER. Let’s get that out there right now… I absolutely hate the word, and I have a good reason. Keener, although people use it in the context of eager-school-beaver, seems different to me. “A little too goody-two shoes for you?” Fiona asks. “No, it sounds brown-noser suck up to me,” I reply. Suspending belief that one actually means “eager-school-beaver keener”, what I don’t understand is this: In Post-Secondary you are PAYING for your education. Shouldn’t you want to do well? Shouldn’t you WANT to do YOUR personal best? In high school it might have been different, you were ‘forced’ to be there technically (Ideal Mini excluded). But now you are paying to be at a University or College – thousands of dollars a term! Why don’t you care? If you have decided you have to call me something… that you must classify me because I enjoy to do well in school; I prefer the word ‘nerd’. I love to organize; I like labelling and highlighting; I adore Post-it Notes™; I like folders and fonts and notes… the list goes on. Therefore I’m a nerd, and oddly proud of it. It’s who I am, and I enjoy being prepared and organized. P.S. I resent being called “Head Keener” because of the aforementioned reasons.
